Stagecoach is rolling out their new livery across the group. Many people have offered their opinion on the scheme apparently known as Steel Blue but I wanted to wait to see it in the flesh before deciding for myself.
Well today I came across 37141 which seems to be the first Plymouth bus to get the colours.
Now I have seen one I do have to wonder what on earth are Stagecoach thinking? I am sure it will be cheaper to apply than the overly complicated liveries employed by the group so far, but to go to such a depressing dark blue scheme which is going to be so difficult to see in the dark just seems like an odd step to make. I have seen it being suggested that this scheme is to replace all the current schemes including the yellow version – hopefully this isnt the case.
I have read plenty of opinions on this scheme, most of which seem to agree with me – does anyone actually like this?
The livery doesn't matter to people who use buses as long as they are on time and clean inside that's all that matters. And bus companies need to stop the vaping inside there vehicles
ReplyDeleteBeing on time and clean inside are of course overwhelmingly the most important things, but they are not all that matter. I'm afraid that's a tired old trope and is somewhat insulting to users. Being on time and clean internally are the absolute bare minimum that any operator should be striving for. Unless we simply give up and always regard the bus as a distress purchase when no other option exists operators need to do a lot more, including presenting a strong, smart and clear image to a wider audience. That is what all the best operators do.
DeleteStrongly agree with vaping rules. Bus companies should show the CCTV of the back of the vehicle all the time other than when the doors open
DeleteIf it was a slightly lighter blue (the same blue used on the lower skirt of the old beachball livery) it would look fine. It's just very bland and boring.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan. It's inoffensive, but unexciting. The new First Bus livery (fleet name aside) is much better than this. And I'm not convinced about running dark blue buses down unlit country roads at night.
ReplyDeleteCitybus 150 is repaired and in Go Cornwall livery
ReplyDeleteI agree, it does seem a strange choice, especially as First have also opted for dark blue. It's almost as if they want to be inconspicuous!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of gaudy colour schemes either, but this is going too far the other way. I wonder how long it'll last .....
Anybody with any sense will tell you that a dark livery like this makes it almost impossible for somebody with poor eyesight to spot an approaching bus. It is very difficult to differentiate between lorries and other large vehicles. Ideal colours for approaching buses to be seen and waved down are Red and other bright primary colours. So, very bad idea from Stagecoach. And First.

ReplyDeleteI hate the new liveries that companies seem to be adopting, they're so uninspiring... There's nothing to them, I hated the local/distance/special liveries of stagecoach, I had grown to like them but they changed it to this. Bring back barbie/beachball any day of the week. I think they're all in an identity crisis, why change something that works well and has done for years, I get the need to refresh but theres Stagecoach buses in beachball/local/dark blue roaming around, they want standardisation but...
