Hopefully most of these odds and ends will have come through now. There are few signs of changes for the start of November beginning to appear - more on these later...

  1. Full closure of Strand in Torquay is now scheduled for Tuesday 15th October until Friday 29th November. The junction of Fleet Street and Cary Parade will also be closed for remodelling so buses will not be able to access bus stops in those locations. Alternative temporary stops and route changes should be announced soon.

  2. Did it really needed doing

    1. The Government clearly thought so as they were willing to give Torbay Council funding for it. Strand was tired and shabby and needed rejuvenating. When it is finished next month the area will be vastly improved and it will give Torquay someting it has been lacking - a 'Town Square'.

    2. Julian I thought the previous government gave general town generation funding to Torbay which wasn't specifically allocated to projects like banning buses from the traditional harbour terminus? Agree the harbour needed a facelift but why at the expense of integrated pubic transport? Note the deputy council leader described buses at the harbour as making too much noise & being polluting!

  3. Banishing buses from their historic harbourside terminus going back to tram days - no, it didn't need doing!! Councillor Lewis claimed the harbour had become a glorified bus station with polluting buses & it would be replaced with something better (pedestrian boulevard). Buses are now inconveniently squashed together in Cary Parade (particularly when several meet at the same time). Just as well Stagecoach axed all Exeter & Plymouth buses from Torquay & reduced town services substantially or Cary Parade would not cope. Buses towards Babbacombe / Teignmourh / Dawlish direction (22 & open-top 122 if ever reinstated) do not serve Cary Parade & stop even further away opposite the old Grey Cars depot up the hill past the new Co-op, hardly a convenient interchange between all services then!

    1. So your objection is not to the work in itself, it is to the bus stops being relocated. Thank you for clarifying.

  4. Bring back the X46 Paignton/ Torquay to Exeter

    1. Yes a major loss to the South Devon network due to funding disputes between Torbay Council & Devon County Council, the former unwilling to contribute with Devon saying mainly Torbay residents used the service. The alternative 12 to Newton Abbot & changing onto the hourly 7 is way too slow & many do not live near rail stations + wish to use bus network tickets (including tourists).
