Far Right Rioting

Last Night saw horrible scenes of violence with the far right protest turning into rioting. Plymouth Citybus were keeping buses out of the City Centre from tea time onwards later in the evening a wider area was excluded with buses being diverted. They sent out details on Twitter but when I observed the live tracking towards the end of the evening there were quite a few variations from the published plans. All in all it seems they did a good job keeping most services running whilst keeping their drivers and passengers safe. The notes from Twitter below are just a flavour of the diversions in place.

Due to the escalating situation in Plymouth city centre there is No service on North Hill beyond North Road East, Charles Street, Ebrington Street, Exeter Street, Royal Parade, Mayflower Street, Derrys Cross, Western Approach or Coburg Street.

  • 16, 33, 43 and 61 will be terminating and starting from the railway station due to the ongoing situation with the protest.
  • 5 5A Will not operate from Plymstock beyond Cattedown. Connect with 51 if wishing to get closer to the city from this point.
  • 34 Operating to and from Milbay via Martin Street, King Street, Eldad and Wilton Street to the Station where they will terminate.
  • 21 21A From Devonport via King Street, Eldad and Wilton Street to the Station terminating there. From Plympton terminating at Cattedown Please use 51 buses to connect at Cattedown from the Station.
  • 50 51 Operating to and from Cattedown via Greenbank and North Road East in both directions.
  • 23 24 35 42 42C 44 Buses operating via North Road East to and from the Railway Station in both directions from Mutley/North Hill. 23/24 operating via Greenbank to and from Tothill.

First thing this morning Royal Parade was still closed to allow a clean up, with services returning to normal from 06:45
