As promised more buses transferred to Plymouth Citybus have arrived at Milehouse.

The first 3 Enviro 40H double deckers from City of Oxford have now arrived.

It remains to be seen what fleet numbers get allocated. I would guess they will follow on from 4001 – 4014 but then I thought that for the 4 that eventually became 539-542!

  1. Seeing some very interesting conversations around the engines these now have, if true, these may be constrained to what routes they can carry out. 4pot 4.5 litre engine conversions.

    1. They still have 210hp as per cummins, only 20 behind a N230UD, torque isn’t too far behind either. Their benefit is the 6 speed ZF, the thing that was a major killer for the old 51/02 B7’s was their awful 3 speed boxes that limited them massively!

    2. watch some vids of those on youtube - they seem to shift quite well with an unusual drivetrain sound!

  2. Good luck to Plymouth, had to ride on one of these in Dec 23 as it was shoved on the Oxford 400 P&R, it's dirty, grubby, noisy.

    1. E200 134 has been off the road for a week, wonder if we wont see that one again now that the E200s have arrived.

    2. Dirty & Grubby can be fixed easily, especially with the plan for them to be Milehouse based. As for noise they can't be worse than the tridents

  3. In theory, being E40H's they'll have a new number class, maybe 51xx etc.

I doubt they'll throw them onto 54x as there is not enough numbers before the sparks once they all arrive

    1. They could carry on with the 40** range following on from the 57 plates into the 11 plates which has been suggested on previous posts ive seen...

    2. They're no longer Hybrids - but converted back standard straight drive ops, so i'd imagine they'll follow 4014, as i believe they're the same type.

    3. The chassis is still classified as E40H, even with the hybrid systems disabled. With a cummins ISBe4 and ZF get up they're not really alike any other buses in the fleet

    4. I think the engine is the same as the 65 plate E200’s and I believe we have the same ZF boxes in the 64 plate ex- SC London and the 57 plate ex-London, I don’t know the exact specifics wether they are the same, but I imagine they’re more a like the buses we have in the fleet compared to if they were still hybrids, so they’ll probably carry on with the 40** numbering, but could change the 0 given they aren’t ‘standard’ per say.

Though, has to be said the E400 series numbering system doesn’t seem to make sense like the E200MMC’s do, and soon to be ex-Orbits:
      20** 8.9m
      22** 9.7m
      24** 10.8m

    5. Further to the comment I just made, completely forgot the 63/65’s we have had since new also have ZF’s! I believe the Ecocity’s are also ZF? It’s just having an E200 with a ZF, but a E400 body I imagine?

    6. I now understand the potential for them to be under the 5000s fleet numbering. Its not just under engine sizing, but its also the length of vehicle. These are not the same length as the 400s/4000s, but are in fact full length the same as 500s etc, and obviously there's not enough numbers left to fulfil that.

  4. JB confirmed that 162 and 166 have also been withdrawn, whether they go into the training fleet, is yet to be seen.

    1. 162 blown engine, 166 chassis rot, so I think not. 134, 6008 withdrawn too with expired engines.

    2. The fleet really is rotting away lol, but yeah its a much needed withdrawal of these buses, I hope they turn the other "new-in" buses around quickly, as much as "old is best", the remaining older E200's, and scanias / ex London E400's are well past their best now, I'd say.....

  5. Looking at the 3 ex. OBC buses at Taunton reminds me way back to August 1982 when we delivered the first three of a batch of twelve Bristol VRT2?ECWs to Western National's Taunton depot for onward shipment to Plymouth. I remember the bus I drove being OUD431M.
This was part of an NBC vehicle exchange where Oxford gained Western National's initial allocation of twelve Olympian/ECW's in 1982.

  6. Any plans on when the next lot of dd's being sent down? Also is the work on the mcr 200s still under way?

    1. Well given some of the Oxford deckers including 2 that have arrived (313/317) are already Red they shouldnt need paint so at least some should be out sooner than the rest. 2466 is in Red and out 2467 is out but in Manchester Orbits livery.

    2. It's not quite as simple as just chucking a bus into service, and just because some are arriving red, doesn't mean they'll be quicker to be on the road. If Citybus need them, they'll be put to use once they've carried out their mechanical inspections.

  7. I guess the Gas buses are staying around for a bit longer then, I remember there was rumours a while ago about them going pretty soon?
