I have also noticed quite a few new timetables have appeared on Traveline for Plymouth Citybus services from September so I suspect this next week will see quite a few more registrations.

The first one mentioned above see’s the 72 renumbered as the 10 which has prompted Peter Murnaghan to send this lovely photo in

I went out this morning to photograph the sole journey on the 72 to serve Hannafore en route to Plymouth.  It's sad to see the long standing route number '72 to Polperro & Looe' disappear, in favour of the rather meaningless 10.   OK, it's tidy to alternate with the 11 at the Plymouth end, but routes in the 70s have long been associated with routes in South East Cornwall.  Indeed, the 72 has run continuously between Plymouth and Looe since the Tamar Bridge opened 62 years ago. I thought you might like to use my picture, in Hannafore, with Looe Island in the background.

  1. The 72 route number wasn't used by First D&C though, if I remember Tamar link was route 81? Unless i'm getting confused?

    1. The Looe service was always the 72. going back well into Western National times. The Tamar Link routes were the Torpoint services.

  2. 81a First, an idea late 1990s Plymouth to Polperro via the Torpoint ferry, 3 a day. 72 in summer.

  3. Yes, when I moved here in 1982 the Looe bus was the 72. 70 & 71 were our local Saltash services and the
Torpoint Ferry buses were the 80 and 81. All Western National green VRs.
By the way, we're losing evening buses on the 2A entirely in the SC timetable changes. Can't complain as I
haven't used them for ages, but it does bring to mind something First did which Stagecoach didn't continue,
and that is to combine the two services in the late evening: a bus ran round the 1A (=2A) route as far as Frith
Road eastbound, then turned down Church Road and round the 1 (=2) route, covering practically all of both routes.

    1. If the rumoured finished project of long park road roadworks is correct the 2 will continue running to the fire station as per the current road closure diversion.
Apparently long park road is being made one way in the direction from church road towards the school, according to the workmen.

2a is carrying 1-2 pax per trip in evenings. Assuming the council don’t want to fund. I also guess the evening 11 and 12 will continue to pass the end of the estates as well.

    2. When i asked workman they said same thing tho i expect that 2 will go past spar then right into wearde road then left into long park road to resume normal route.
The new timetable has gone up in st stevens and it looks as if the sunday evening service still alternate between st stephens and latchbrook as 2132 dosent appear unless this has been removed

  4. I had a feeling Long Park Road was going to be one-way the other way, i e westbound, so went to see yesterday, but didn't see any signs
(and it was starting to rain!). But I notice the time point is still Long Park Road School, so I'm guessing the 2's route will stay the same.

    1. Ive not seen them yet - but some do seem to take ages to come through these days. I still have a fair few gaps between what is published and new timetables I know about.

  6. The Licensing Office are running massively behind at the moment, it took a month for our registrations to go from submission to the first stage of processing (not even to the point where the information is available to the public but the point it is entered in to the system by their data processes to be reviewed by their officers & fees to be paid), so it is anyones guess when things will finally appear.

  7. I see that 6x GCB E200 MMC's have been transfered to PCB and already / being put into Tramlines. Does this show how bad the situation is in terms of the PCB fleet or perhaps a sign of more withdrawals. Can anyone expand on this?

    1. It’s an interesting move isn’t it. They don’t appear to be for use on Dartmoor services, instead finding a home on 13s, 20s and 59. But only seemingly replacing 160,161 and 251 being that those were the only short length vehicles in use (with 161 now reentering service too).

It looks like the whole batch of 65 plate e200s have gone to Cornwall since returning from Winkleigh, but with the batch of small e200 MMCs and the hideous 64plate e200s leaving Cornwall the only logical explanation for these now being up in Plymouth has to be service reductions making them redundant.

Rumour of replacements for e200s arriving in November but these still being rebranded indicate that this is not a short term move too.

      Delete
    2. the rebranding itself is not a good indicator of long term plans - the branding can be removed / changed pretty quickly.

      Delete
    3. For months they’ve used Cornwall stock in Plymouth and visa versa without a rebrand, yet now they’ve peeled away and restock. I understand what you’re saying, it’s only stickers not a repaint, but for PCB these days I’d say that’s a pretty permanent move!

    4. The 8.9m E200mmc are too short for some of cornwall routes

  8. It has to be remember that the 20 plate E200's were bought by the company and as such could probably be used elsewhere. They prob replacing the 2201-2211 batch on plymouth routes on small buses.

  9. Just had a very interesting conversation with a friend at GSC, while morebus have started to receive their new buses, SV look like they will be waiting a little while longer for theirs which are due in a month or two as they're instead due to go to UniLink. There seems to be a rather large movement of vehicles to and from GSC coming very shortly - so don't be surprised to see some older E200s from GSC arriving at Milehouse. These could also be from Oxford, but the GSC movements are happening much sooner than Oxfords.

    1. Anon @ 13:58 - any idea how old these E200's are? Any potential example reg plates that might be coming down. Not familar at all with GSC.

      Delete
    2. you can see the list of E200s across the group on bus times - but there's plenty of them across all of the main companies https://bustimes.org/groups/Go%20South%20Coast/vehicles

      Delete
    3. with the arrival of the new E400MMCs at more, surely that frees up the MMCs on the m1/m2 to be moved to other areas? i know more still retain their Volvos from 2012 though, so surely they would be leaving for other companies within GSC - finding it difficult to see how any of the remaining E200s would come to Plymouth - considering they're the shorter variety in the case of the 64 plates and Plymouth require 10.8 variants, so somehow i don't think GSW will be on the receiving end of these

    4. i have to agree with you there - we need bigger single deck vehicles.

for example i normally get the 14 towards Derriford during the morning rush hour and they normally use the 08 E200’s which arent big enough as its normally rammed with school kids as well as regular users.

the e200 mmc’s are ideal for the quieter routes but we need bigger capacity buses to be honest…

  10. GSC have plenty of E200's from 64 reg(2014) upwards.

  11. Malcolm Crowe's 'Oxford & Chiltern Bus Page' of 30/08/23 has pictures of ex GCB 2201, now Carousel 431 but still in
Go Cornwall lettering and fleet number, and ex PCB 2204, now Carousel 534 but still in Citybus tramlines and fleet number,
on route 275 High Wycombe - Oxford and local High Wycombe routes.

    1. Interesting to see they’re now up that way - so glad they’re gone tbh.

  12. I can't see GSC giving up any 64/65 plate MMCs to Plymouth anytime soon. I suspect we will probably have the older Scania E400s and 63 plate E40Ds if anything was to come down.

    1. I guess its all speculation at the moment but I dont see anything from GSC myself as they need all the buses they can get to replace all the temporary buses they have for Southampton etc. There are clearly going to be some big fleet movements within GA over the coming months with large numbers of new electric buses into Oxford and London at least.

      Delete
    2. there's 40 odd new E400s coming to morebus, 7 coming to SV but first going to UniLink, i believe there's more coming for bluestar too all before the end of the year, the Oxford Electrics aren't due until the new year - London is always getting new buses, so some more E400s from London wouldn't be surprising. GSC has around 600 buses being transferred in / out and between companies in the coming 8 weeks. It remains to be seen what moves where.

  13. Jason confirmed replacements will be from GNW. Probably 4000-4011 which are 12 and 13 plate E200s

    1. interesting... are these replacements for any buses in particular? or to add to the fleet? i assume being added to the PCB fleet?

example reg btw is YX62 DSZ?

      Delete
    2. If you mean 4001 to 4010, horrible. Some are old ex London, no better than the 08s we now have GNW do have our original 12 plate Volvos... what a dream it would be to have those back

      Delete
    3. Replacements for the 56 plates. Unsure on the 08 plates yet

      Delete
    4. interesting - all are as tired as eachother! even the 08 plates which i do love to be honest. Any new buses apart from Ex London buses will be fine 🤣

      Delete
    5. They're a mix of YX62 and LX13 plates I believe. They're original Dart bodied E200s with old style windows like the ones we have from East Yorkshire. I highly doubt we'll get the newer 66 plates.

      Delete
  14. I think we should get our 12-plate B7RLE's back but wishful thinking 😂
