Local News
Stagecoach has announced further cuts to its bus services, this time axing vital buses that transport pupils to and from a large Exeter secondary school. As of April 1, the bus operator will no longer be running three buses from different parts of the city to St Peter's Church of England School in Quarry Lane on the edge of Broadfields and Middlemore. The success of a reduced bus fares pilot, the Council’s bus service improvement plan and the results of a pilot project offering care leavers in Cornwall free bus travel were on the agenda for Department for Transport Minister Richard Holden’s visit to Cornwall on Thursday 9 February. Mr Holden, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport, is visiting Cornwall and travelling by bus from Cornwall Airport Newquay to Truro bus station where he heard first-hand about Cornwall’s successful bus fares pilot which, combined with the government’s £2 flat fare single journey scheme, has encouraged more residents to get back on the bus. Hundreds more of England’s dwindling bus services could be axed next week with a funding shortfall looming, transport authorities have warned.Labour said the government had “just 10 days to act” before operators start having to cut routes because of the expiry of post-pandemic state support. The bus recovery grant, brought in to keep services running as passenger numbers slowly returned after Covid-19, will run out at the end of March, after an emergency £130m six-month extension averted a similar financial cliff-edge last summer. I know you're busy with other things these days Graham but I wish we could go back to the old Plymothian transit of changes to liveries, fleet news etc. We only seem to get "Transit" updates these days :(
ReplyDeleteThat is a fair point! Its not been ideal and I do intend to start posting more often coming up. The next month or so I should be getting out a bit more and back into office working for two days a week so that should also help with getting photos etc. There is already one this week!
