With our @adventuresbybus Exmoor Coaster snd Sunseekers packed this Summer, we’ve commissioned another 4 open top E400s from @ThorntonsBus which are now in build to allow the full Watchet to Ilfracombe route to become open top in 2023 pic.twitter.com/bZgdzyxYiB

Can’t say I was a big fan of the sails inside the double height concourse, cluttering it up. However the signal box at the station was very good. Completed as an early part of the station rebuild I particularly admired its lettering. pic.twitter.com/b67mn0QHue

#TransportArchitecture of the day is Plymouth station. Opened in 1961/62 to a design by H E B Cavanagh, R L Moorcroft and Ian Campbell it’s a rebuild intended to complement the wider rebuilding of Plymouth. Intercity House was scaffolded the day I visited. #RailwayArchitecture pic.twitter.com/6PH6MQ7ct7

Good to see First expanding again. Plymouth station is in need of massive Reading style overhaul with Intercity house being ripped down (I know it's a part of history but it's also an eyesaw!) Your first welcome to Plymouth still feels like that from the 70/80s.
ReplyDeletePretty sure they are not ripping it down! Its certainly getting a big makeover which is much needed. Not sure how much FirstGroup is involved with that though.
DeleteIt's not, regular routes reduced (both Somerset & Cornwall) + less winter adventures on routes started as year round. Good to see proposed Ilfracombe upgrade though.
DeleteReading is a strategic location on the National Rail passenger and freight network and was one of its worst bottlenecks. The Reading Remodelling Project cost nearly £1 billion and included new flyovers, junctions, resignalling and a new Traincare Depot as well as a new station all of which massively increased capacity through the area. I don't think Plymouth is quite in that league!
