Devon & Cornwall Transit 2022: Week 16

The weekly look back on what has been published on the Registered Local Bus Services site over the last week. As always click through for more details including timetables and maps. Well it would be if there were any!

This coming week:

This weekend sees quite a few timetables changes: mostly Plymouth Citybus with a few from AB Coaches and AVMT. The Stagecoach service 2 although listed from 25th April is more likely a late recording of the new timetable listed from 2nd April.

  3. Citybus have reinstated the 28A even though the junction of Forder Valley Road and Novorossiysk Road is not fully reopened yet. I saw one going down the hill from ASDA, turning left at the bottom and travelling to Leigham roundabout. Unfortunately I lost sight of it, but it seemed to be heading back on FVR. Quite a long and unproductive double run.

    1. This was tied in with the Southway changes, the 42 was taken out of Mainstone/Estover to be rerouted into Southway so the 28A was reintroduced even though the road is not fully opened.

    2. Of course the new junction did open for a very short while before they had to pause it and restrict the right turn out of Novorossiysk Road. I am sure it wont be too long before they reopen it properly.

    3. Citybus havent got a clue what they are doing. Here in Southway there is uproar over what they have done to services 40/41/42, but as always its profit over customer service and what the customer wants and needs. They do all the silly changes but ultimately need to think Its not what they want its what the customer wants so people are more likely to drive- which i now do having given up on the unreliable service. I think 28A changes are slightly premature and really they should have waited until the actual project is completed.

    4. I don't agree. Once it was clear that Plymouth was not going to get any Bus Back Better funding, CityBus knew they had to make economies. Running the 42 to Mainstone was hugely inefficient (even if the City Council were paying for it), it made sense to put the 28A back at the earliest opportunity even if the road improvements were not quite complete.

Removing the 40/41 from Southway in favour of the 42/42A changes tales two buses an hour off the City Centre-Crownhill corridor which helps to match capacity more closely to current demand. It is still a high-frequency corridor with a turn-up-and-go frequency during the daytime. I get that some people in Southway will not be happy about the resulting changes, but it tends to be the people who are upset that make the noise.

    5. problem is as a normal user of the services in southway it dont work at all, the 42 is covering a small area of southway that is less people compared to the 42a that gets the most, but the 42a gets more as people dont like the 42 due to its horrid route. ive been counting users this week and in total its more used mornings as the 42A dont turn up. the current 41 is always full lately.

ive spoken to people of southway myself and all have come to a agreement that the service 42 is no good and the 41 works better (also needs to be a bigger bus as even ive had to stand on that service) improvements are needed while still sticking to cutbacks so it is hard. all that i can expect is that the 42 would be removed as of a lack of use when there is only 5 people on it from southway, its more busy once it gets the derriford corridor

    6. Julian3 May 2022 at 11:11 with all fairness no company doing a cutback is good, but citybus could of atlest did a area check and spoken to people who live in the area before making changes. no one seems happy about it and the normal 42 seems very empty compared to a 41 i seen today with standings on a mini E200. would be quite interested to know what the total passenger numbers are. as in the words of citybus if you dont use it, you'll lose it
