Devon & Cornwall Transit 2022 Week 9

The weekly look back on what has been published on the Registered Local Bus Services site over the last week. As always click through for more details including timetables and maps.

I was expecting things to get busy at some stage – and its all started kicking off this last week with over 90 notices published this last week. 

There are three distinct batches:

  • Plymouth Citybus- Apart from one for Plymouth (33) these are all for TFC services from 10/11th April.
  • Stagecoach – Apart from the 157/257/357 which was from 27th February – these are all from 10/11th April.
  • First Kernow – Listed as cancellations from the 11th April, many of these cancellations are from services which probably haven't run for quite some time, including a few annual services for special events in Cornwall. Clearly tidying up old registrations.

As usual feel free to click through on the licence numbers for more details as although the operators have yet to fully detail the changes many of these have the new timetables and maps already on the pages. The rest will I am sure be added over the coming weeks.

Phew – that's been fun to process! Luckily for me there are no new changes due this coming week

Although there are 94 listed above I am sure there will be quite a few more to follow as from the weekend 10/11 April. First Kernow will have a few yet and also I am sure there will be plenty of changes for Plymouth Citybus services in the city to follow.

    The changes to Stagecoach routes 12 and Gold follow the completion of the work to replace the bridge over the railway line at Livermead, Torquay. The temporary timetables on these routes (as well as the 22) and the curtailment of Gold to Paignton will end. The work was supposed to end this week but has been delayed due to late delivery of materials to site.

    The 101 Park and ride is cut to every 20 mins... had a feeling this would happen once the 1 was diverted into George Park and Ride. Interestingly this cuts the service along Outland Road when BSIP said it intends to have 6 buses an hour on this corridor. Nice to see the 11pm service 1 from Plymouth back though!

    Unless I'm misreading things, it would seem that the long routes from Plymouth to Padstow (11) and Polperro (72) are to be largely withdrawn from next month. The link along the Glynn valley to Bodmin (11) looks to be un-served and the link to Polperro will, presumably (no timetables yet) involve a change of bus at Looe on most days.

      It does seem like it, although more registration changes are still appearing - but I cant see anything through to Bodmin now. Will be interesting to see how all of these changes are spun / presented to customers

      i find this route split quite odd actually - but it looks like it's something to do with TFC / Council funding, most of the changes seem to be bus routes being renumbered - particularly the 10 as the 96 and the 11A as the 10.

    Also states on registrations that frequency to Torpoint on the 70s are cut from April too

      it looks like the majority of routes are reducing, which is interesting... wonder if there's some competition for routes now with TFC actually creating an identity across all of the operators

    Yeah looks like the 11 goes trago mills then goes back to Liskeard, if you want to go Bodmin. From Plymouth right through from Liskeard, you have to get a train to Bodmin Parkway and get the renumbered route which was 11a now it will be 10 to Padstow which will take you to Bodmin Town from 10th April to me the time tables are a massive mess up and definitely no improvement s, on top of that the 74 and 79 week days are going from an hourly service to every 2 hours the service s iam talking about are Plymouth citybus go cornwall routes

      I would be surprised if the 92 was being withdrawn, more likely it has been reassigned to a different operator and Stagecoach are merely deregistering it on Mondays to Saturdays. Devon County Council did have aspirations to upgrade the service to hourly to improve train connections at Totnes, rather like they did with the 164 to Kingsbridge and Salcombe.

      And plans to restore heavily cut Stagecoach frequencies halved on some routes such as Exeter City & Gold 57 are abandoned due to more drivers quitting Matford depot. Don't think the Plymouth 2/2A has ever gone back to every ten minutes combined has it Graham?

      To Julian, the Mon-Sat SC 92 was fully commercial with only Sundays currently contracted by DCC, obviously with SC ending commercial operation that will now change.

    I noticed a registration for a 179 Bodmin to Gunnislake. Will this fill the gap between Trago Mills and Bodmin? I suspect that this is a network review by Cornwall Council based on passenger numbers and finance available.

    Seems like Citybus are cutting frequency on many services in and out of Cornwall. Also 8 and 9 reduced to every 30 mins on each route. Stagecoach merger with National Express off, new deal with German investment group promising investment for expansion of current services.

    Things have gone full circle - when we first moved to Saltash exactly 40 years ago, the 72 terminated at Hannafore. That was in the days of green Western National VRs. There were no longer routes, to Bodmin and Padstow, or to Bude. To whoever was asking, yes the 2 & 2A are still every 15 minutes, half-hourly at each end where the routes split. The cutbacks are quite severe, I wonder if they'll be temporary .....

    Am I reading this right but looking at new timetable on traveline Torpoint now only have one bys per hour on the 70? If so, this leaves door open for another operator?

      Funny how Citybus were more than interested in the Torpoint route when they were pushing First out but not bothered now. I can't believe Torpoint had 7 buses per hour I believe in 2015 (4 First and 3 Citybus) now down to 1.

    People need to know what is happening with the service between Dartmouth and Totnes has alot of people rely on it. I've emailed Stagecoach but haven't received a reply yet

      Believe it or not, I am actually in contact with the Managing Director of Stagecoach, so I’ll be sending an email to find out more as I use the 92 service a lot as well.

      Only a 'timing change' on the 92 because Stagecoach has won the new DCC Mon-Sat 92 contract (already holding the Sunday one) after dumping its commercial route! I'm surprised the MD hasn't mentioned that fact to anon 12 March at 16:35 if - believe it or not - they are 'actually in contact' with him as he has know for a while now & already registered said new contracted route.

    Is the falcon still running after 1st May as you can't book tickets after that date while other megabus services you can book up till October
