As promised we have the run down of previously announced timetable changes to start the new year with quite a few each for Plymouth Citybus (both sides of the Tamar) and Stagecoach along with a few from Redwoods Travel. These new timetables are not the only thing that changes in the New year..
More details on this after the weekend.
In the meantime Id like to wish all visitors to this site a very happy New Year from Plymothian Transit.
On a personal note 2021 couldn't have been much worse so 2022 just has to be better…
Thank you once again Graham for keeping us updated throughout 2021, despite your difficult year.
ReplyDeleteI hope 2022 is a much better year for you and indeed everyone.
Thanks PH - it cant be any worse can it?
DeleteThe Cornwall fares integration from 2nd January has to be the single most positive thing to have happened to Cornwall's bus services for I don't know how long. It's all credit to First South West, Go South West and Cornwall Council for agreeing and implementing this most radical change in how bus services are organised since deregulation.
ReplyDeleteIt is brilliant. This will happen in Plymouth soon I am sure. Ah who am I kidding absolutely no chance..lol
DeleteI am sure it will happen in Plymouth eventually as this is something thats being encouraged everywhere. It was very much part of the plans that the City Council have put forward for government money - I strongly suspect that much of the money wont appear but joint ticketing will happen at least in local areas.
DeleteIn my home city of Oxford, Stagecoach and Go-Ahead compete/complement each other, and have to accept each other's tickets by order of the Council; this has been the case for some years. They are now going a stage further, and core routes will no longer be operated by both companies running alternately. It's all to make the service more user-friendly.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Oxford has been a shining example for a long time. However, Cornwall has gone one stage further in that while Oxford still has a choice of operator-specific tickets or multi-operator tickets the former doesn't apply in Cornwall. All tickets are now equally valid on all services irrespective of operator.
DeleteWhilst joint ticketing is good I hope this doesn't mean full withdrawal of operator tickets. For eg where I live to city £2.20 return on Stagecoach over £4 on citybus. I for one am quite happy with my £2.20 fare on 15 min frequency service and don't want to end up paying more so I can have chance to use Citybus service that to be honest I won't
ReplyDeleteExactly what journey are you making that is £2.20 return on Stagecoach and >£4 return on CityBus?
DeleteManadon Roundabout to city centre. £2.20 short hop return on Stagecoach. A single on citybus cost my wife £2.70 the other day as she missed the 1 in the evening by 5 mins, return is either £4 or £4.10
ReplyDeleteSt. Budeaux with Stagecoach into town return is £2.80. City bus is £4.20. Along that same corridor, they are far cheaper at every stop.
ReplyDeleteYes similar from Manadon through Mannamead Road and Mutley to city. STAGECOACH far cheaper from every stop too!
DeleteWe are talking about private companies here. Stagecoach have targeted the busy corridors in the city and undercut Citybus on those corridors. Citybus on the other hand have endeavoured to serve most parts of the the city including routes which, at least in part, have low passenger numbers and presumably make little or no profit. Different company policies. Stagecoach fares for passengers on the busy corridors are fine but the net effect is the undermining of a viable comprehensive citywide network.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair the low fares zones Stagecoach have are the ones inherited from when they took over from First whom I am sure did it to hurt Citybus/Go Ahead as part of a long running bus war Stagecoach clearly see mileage in keeping these lower fares although not at the £1 single fare rate First had. Only thing I can't understand is Stagecoach do not advertise their cheaper fares at all. People do not know until they try their services
