Life After Plymouth WJY756

Happy Birthday To Me…

A real blast from the past with this lovely shot from Peter Murnaghan:

Ex Plymouth Atlantean WJY 756 in Cardiff Bus Station copy

ex Plymouth Leyland Atlantean WJY 756 in service with Cardiff City Transport as their no.508 at Cardiff Bus Station on 26th April 1978.  The destination display has been reduced to a single line, by the simple expedient of plating over the upper display window.

508 is followed by a Willowbrook bodied Bristol VR.

Thanks Peter!

  1. Great shot Graham! If memory serves me correctly this bus is from the same batch as the three converted to open top for the Western King - City Centre - Bovisand summer service back in the eighties.

  2. If you look in the background to the right you can see the upper windows of another Atlantean

    1. I'm pretty certain the bus on the right is a Guy Arab. The dome is much rounder, the ventilator isn't quite the same, and there are push-out opening windows at the front, rather than what is fitted to the Atlantean. Here is a link to a picture of a Cardiff Guy Arab for comparison

    1. 149/54/56/57, WJY749, WJY754, WJY756 and WJY757 were on loan to Cardiff September 1977 and then purchased by Cardiff in December 1977 as Cardiff 506-509. 154 was withdrawn in Oct 1978, 149/157 wdn July 79 and finally 156 wdn Dec 1979 all eventually scrapped
