I have been plodding through loads of service changes that are being made across the region, many of which are being published after the event so the normal way of publishing these has gone out of the window at the moment. There will be a lot of posts over the coming days where I hope to detail the changes that have happened and maybe those which are about to happen. To save this blog becoming just a big list of service changes I will be posting a lot more photo specials in between.
So we start off with the newly acquired Enviro 200s from First Kernow (they were owned by the council) which will join the Transport for Cornwall fleet once repainted. This may be a while yet though as life is on hold at the moment!

The buses will eventually become Plymouth Citybus 2000 – 2015 unless someone tells me otherwise!

Do the newer 20 plates have a similar interior to these? I wonder why Kernow didn't buy them off the council unless there was no requirement for them. To think in 3 or 4 years these will probably be moved on to PCB.
ReplyDeleteNo, the new ones are basic spec because they're stock build. Therefore no WiFi, USB ports or driver aircon.
DeleteI would think that why Kernow didn't buy the 16 that have moved, assuming they could, would be that there'd be no use for them. Kernow requires a predominantly double deck fleet now.
Can't help wondering - why repaint? After all, Citybus has/had yellow, orange, green, blue buses as well as red, and intending passengers will be familiar with the sight of them, irrespective, dare I suggest, of who owns and runs them. Of course this is academic while so many buses are unused for the foreseeable future. Hopefully it won't be too long before things start to get back to normal. Stay safe - V
ReplyDeletebut these days Citybus is going back to an all red fleet (apart from specials) losing the Flash brands. It also is likely to not want to run them in the livery of their competitor. This is all conjecture though so anything could happen

ReplyDeleteNo these have hi spec interiors to Kernow standards - hi back seats, Wi-fi, usb charging.
They have to be painted out of Kernow livery within 12 weeks as a condition of taking them back. Kernow don’t want them remaining in their livery.
The other 4 are owned by Kernow.
Dident first get into trouble with a council for the 08 plate e400 on x9 sent them to bristol then had to bring them back
DeleteIn theory they could, Cornwall Council owns them for only a certain period, like a lease on a car, once that's up the operator using them gets the right, same as First did with the X9 enviros owned my DCC.

Regarding livery changes, are the yellow flash buses in for painting, as they haven't been on the 50/51 for the last 7 days. The route has been covered by the 69 plate double deckers normally on the 42's?
ReplyDeleteI believe they are all laid up at the moment with most of the rest of the fleet. They were going into Cornwall until their new double deckers arrived, with many of the loan buses replacing them in service and would probably get a repaint out of yellow once released back from Cornwall. Those plans have clearly changed at the moment. I guess its a question of wait and see what happens next as no one knows how long this is going on for.
DeleteMy guess is that PCB are using the newest buses on the emergency timetables where possible for a couple of reasons, many are still under warranty, and being newer in theory there will be less breakdowns as the engineering department is likely manned by a skeleton staff. There wil be no more repaints until people can returnt to work and normality.
