Have heard 15924 and 15930 painted in stagecoachs new long distance livery. Wonder if the gold will be renumbered
ReplyDeleteIt might be "relaunched" at either the 5th April or 24th May timetable changes. However my money would have been on a relaunch with new vehicles in September as most of the existing Gold buses will be seven years old by then.I wonder if the X80 number will make a comeback?
DeleteI dont think stagecoach sw due any new buses in this years order
DeleteI was on the Gold yesterday evening and I noticed that some of the stops have had the Gold flags covered over with the new standard Stagecoach bus stop vinyls.
ReplyDeletewww.transportforcornwall.co.uk Having looked at the ticket prices etc they seem a bit pricey but are slightly cheaper than First Kernow. Personally I don't get why Cornwall has followed Wales with it's own transport brand, the next thing they'll want is to split GWR so all Cornwall services are merged into it, a massive waste of money!
ReplyDeleteGold to Custard??
ReplyDeleteWhy would the X80 make a comeback? That was a First bus route.
ReplyDeleteX80 predates First by many years. It was a WNOC route from circa.1981 running between Plymouth and Exeter via Paignton & Torquay. It was split in the mid 80s with WN keeping the number for Plymouth to Torquay and DG running Paignton to Exeter as X46 (reinstating an old number with an X prefix.) Stagecoach used to use X45 a few years back when they competed the first time.
DeleteAs with the article posted on Devon and Plymouth Live operators recently stagecoach follow the history behind a route making numbering easy for locals. However with Gold becoming the norm for several years they have a clean slate in my opinion. Using a number like 4 could make sense as it would be the 4th major route out of Plymouth? In line with the 1, 2 and 3. It's a case of wait and find out though.
DeleteCould always use 128, stagecoach seem to like to use older numbers
ReplyDeleteThey should go back to the x45 on the Gold.
ReplyDeleteDevon General used number 45 for Torquay to Plymouth from 1930 to 1955 when it started using the Western National 128 which seemed sensible for the jointly operated service. Perhaps the Stagecoach Paignton to Plymouth service in the early 2000's was inspired by the DG 45. Prior to 1930, DG used number 40 for Torquay to Plymouth (40 latterly used for Exmouth to Sidmouth until the WN renumbering in 1975). 45 or 128 seems a good replacement for 'GOLD'.
