  1. More route changes at Citybus. Why can't they just leave things alone? As soon as people get used to the routes and times they go and change them again.

    1. I have not come across a company like it...it's crazy. only bus op that comes close for changes is Go South Coast ... same company strangely

    2. compared with a few years ago there is nothing like the amount of route changes going on. Back then it was stupid - but the main network has been fairly settled over this last year. Most of these February changes are small timetable changes -and the big change due to road works closing one of the main roads in Plymouth.

    3. Changes in services allow companies to adapt to the customer base and it is good in my opinion. Look at when the council ran the service, service changes were few and far between but as a result the customer base was not wholly ideal. Since Go-Ahead took over changes have been more frequent and fluctuate with demand. I feel this is beneficial to the customer as it allows for a service that could otherwise not be there.

Whitleigh/Holly Park is a good example. This area was not profitable but they made changes to add more connections increase service time before they eventually went the other way and withdrew the service in total. Only after the council got involved did a service return. If citybus didn't improve the service and let it spiral into nothing the council may not have introduced as much funding, especially this day in age when funding is scarce as it is, maybe Holly Park wouldn't even see an hourly service? Yes the service there is far from ideal but that's what happens when an area produces no money.

  2. Im wondering what estover has done to upset pcb to have all these routes cut?

  3. Some of these changes are due to the upcoming closure of Forder Valley Road.

  4. Because they're now reducing commitments in Plymouth to get drivers to Cornwall.
Far more will surface in the next couple of weeks as other actions of theirs come under intense scrutiny within Cornwall.

    1. I may be wrong but I dont see anything in this round of changes that reduces the need for drivers in Plymouth? We will though have to wait and see what happens over the coming months!

  5. They haven't done anything and they are not cuts. The main issue is massive roadworks scheme about to start which will close one of the main roads meaning Mainstone cannot be served by the 28A as it is at the moment. This means that the 42s are being extended to cover Mainstone coming via The George end and through Estover Industrial Estates who as a result are seeing many more buses than they do now. This area previously only being served by peak time extensions of the 34. The extension of the 42s needing more buses hence the loss of the PR3.

  6. Why couldn't Citybus just divert a route along Delamere Road up through Leigham to Mainstone like the old 46/47 city circular (which should never of been scrapped) back in the day??. Or divert the 50/51 through Mainstone??. Would be a lot easier and less hassle!, AND they could of still kept the PR 3 service???.

    1. sending the 28A that way, wouldn't have made any sense, as the route would have had to double back on itself, or be rerouted a different way to what the 28 goes. The 50 could have been used, however, i like the idea of the 42 covering the route between the George P&R and Estover / Mainstone. There's a lot of people who may use the bus more to get down towards Estover business park / Wrigleys.

    2. I think with the roadworks extending the 50/51 and sending buses via leigham will result in buses getting trapped in traffic, not ideal for reliability!

I personally think Citybus has been smart about these changes making it suit the general users not the odd few, something a company should strive to do! It allows a direct link from George P&R to Mutley; it brings more buses through the industrial estate; further connections for those who are in Seaton and allows those in Mainstone better connections through Derriford and Crownhill! Ok the PR3 service has been scrapped but to be honest this service was not the most utilised and by doing this might bring more people to use that segment of route (especially Seaton Ship to P&R, something I always thought the PR3 should have already done.)

  7. To clarify, as I haven’t seen it said anywhere, will the newly routed 42 serve Asda as well as Mainstone? Seems like it would be ridiculous not to!
