Welcome to Devon Transit 050

Its quite fitting that DT 50, the 100th in the joint Devon / Cornwall Transit series should be such a big one. There is plenty going on here with some major timetable changes (reductions) by Stagecoach starting right now and also quite a lot of changes for Plymouth Citybus next week.
I am still getting to grips with the new VOSA web site which has a much better search option and look than the old site but is still missing the one key feature - the ability to check licence changes by date. It remains to be seen if and when this comes back but for now I will be relying on the N&P editions, which may or may not be going weekly in future?
If you have chanced across my didbygraham site, or looked in to my Flickr account you may well have seen the new slightly revised format for the maps (CM Coaches X46 X47 below) too. These are a lot quicker for me to put together which is handy when you get so many changes all in one go.

  • Following the end of funding from Devon and Torbay Councils, a reduced timetable will be introduced on route 13. From Monday to Friday, it will run up to every two hours between Newton Abbot and Brixham with extra college journeys in the morning and afternoon
  • Devon CC: Stagecoach are making changes to services 13 and 13B from 28th November. This follows the ending of funding for additional journeys between Torbay Hospital and Totnes from Torbay Council and from Devon County Council for additional journeys serving Aller. The service will now operate between Newton Abbot and Brixham via Aller Brake Road, The Willows, Torbay Hospital, Marldon, Foxhole and South Devon College. The section of route to Totnes will no longer be served. The Saturday and Sunday service is withdrawn.

  • From 28 November we are introducing a new timetable on our X46 service.
  • The service will be renumbered '46' and run Monday to Saturday with 4 journeys a day in either direction, delivering key commuter and leisure trips. Buses will continue to serve Kingskerswell and there will be an additional stop at Matford Park & Ride, proving new connections to Marsh Barton, Exe Bridges and South Street. A change in usage patterns, developed during the South Devon Highway construction, has resulted in a significant drop in passenger numbers necessitating the new timetable to help try and continue to run the service in the longer term.
  • Departures from Torquay Strand will be at 0700 (school days) or 0715 (school holidays), 1000, 1230 and 1600. Departures from Exeter bus station will be at 0840, 1115, 1445 and 1730. The first departure from Torbay and the last from Exeter will also serve Paignton bus station. New timetables will be available online and in print shortly.
  • Devon CC: Stagecoach are reducing the frequency of service X46 from 28th November. The service will be renumbered 46 and will now provide four journeys per day, Monday – Saturday. The Sunday service is withdrawn.

    Before the Citybus bashers and Stagecoach Wives absolutely loose their minds with excitement at the thought of PCB's impending demise and Stagecoach taking up this competitive edge that everyone oh so dearly seems to want...

    Presumably PCB's 25 Sunday service will replace Jackett's summer only service on the same route? Jacketts website still shows their summer only service, but Jackett's 25 timings are no longer shown on Traveline.

    Also, if I recall correctly, the Sunday service on the 25 received some PCC subsidy as did Sunday services to Eggbuckland -- I have checked and the relevant web page is no longer available on the PCC website.

    Graham, your work in producing these route change reports is much appreciated. May I suggest, however, that the reports be grouped initially by operator then by route number. It would help keep track when interconnected routes are changed.

    have a look at the 5a on the sunday what a waste of time does not do the full route like it does on mon-sat, on sunday it goes down north road a bit up a hill to saltash fore street whats the point of running a sunday service to saltash if citybus cant be bothered to run the whole route like mon-sat

      It presumably runs via Glebe Avenue to the top of Fore Street. Will that even earn enough to cover the bridge toll? By the way, according to Traveline the last departure from Saltash (M-F) and a few on Saturdays run as a 5, so maybe that's why it's included on the map.

      On face value that's how it appears. However that is as far as possible within the resources available. To do full route would require an extra bus, have a look at the timings and it would need another bus to run full route

      It looks like it's been changed from being registered all the way from Plymouth through to Bristol, to just being registered from Plymouth to Cullompton and again from Taunton to Bristol. The middle section appears to be being treated as a coach service still but as it's more than 15 miles, all motorway and with no stops, there's some logic to it. Must be a technical reason behind it, I guess, unless it's to do with concessions not being valid on that portion.
