Plymouth Citybus have now released details of their Christmas services
Its interesting to see that they are keeping to the usual pattern and not joining the increasing numbers of operators who have started running on Boxing day, (or even Christmas day in some areas). Personally I am with Citybus with this one and think the drivers should be allowed the day off.
Meanwhile Stagecoach are operating some special services on Boxing day, but have not given any details just yet…
Nothing given by First Kernow yet.
Boxing Day services are usually run with volunteer drivers, who are typically rewarded either with enhanced pay or an additional day off. Stagecoach may not yet be certain of the number of volunteers it has in order to announce what level of service it can provide. It can be less easy getting engineering and supervisory cover, since these are drawn from a smaller pool of staff.
ReplyDeleteThank you at least drivers can spend time with their families.Human values.I know some will moan .
ReplyDeleteGood for Stacecoach and First Lots of people go out and about on boxing day. As long as it is volutary this is great. Hope our 1 and 2/2a is running
ReplyDeletetarget travel also have there Christmas times online which is close to the citybus one except its down as normal service not Saturday service https://www.flickr.com/photos/129031446@N02/22845750828/
ReplyDeleteThanks Bradley - the main reason they are running Mon-Fri service is that many of their services dont run on Saturdays!
DeleteA change in that on Xmas Eve PCB are actually running Mon-Fri services....
ReplyDeleteThat's really bizarre. They do realise that Xmas Eve is a Saturday, surely?
DeleteUnfortunately things like this show why Plymouth gets left behind the rest of the UK and big businesses ignore area west of Exeter. This may only be one day but highlights the backward thinking of the far SW. Citybus will leave parts of Plymouth as the only big city in UK with no Boxing Day services, whilst Exeter, East Devon and South Hams have Stagecoach service and Cornwall will be served by First. Some people want to work on Boxing Day and want the choice to be able to work. Those in retail will need to get to and from work in the city voluntarily or not! Those luckily enough to live on Stagecoach routes like myself will be able to travel with their Megarider no problem, everyone else will now be stuck paying out fare and half on taxi to and thro work!
ReplyDeleteits no different then every year.city bus never run on boxing day and before stagecoach came to plymouth neither did first. i dont agree with working on boxing day i have never and lucky enough in my job i dont have to, if i was asked would i like to i would always say NO
DeleteHi Graham,
ReplyDeleteI know this is not relevant to the Christmas schedule of the bus times, but I'm a barman and usually always finish 00:00.
The night buses that city bus now run are amazing and very helpful. The 81 all the way too Staddiscombe where as a taxi would cost me 10-15. A bus £2. It's just a shame they are being talked about and also that the timetables are not on the bus stops!
Any way, my review. Very reliable night buses, may be running a few minutes late with a tight timetable as a driver said.
Thank you Citybus!
And a lovely Xmas present from City bus as per every year, large fare increases from December... Return up by as much as 35p , day rider now £4, weekly tucket up £1 and the big one..4 weekly/monthly up £4 to £65, which coincidently they kept quiet! Any Citybus customers may has well buy Skipper now and use Stagecoach as well..only 30p week or 60p month difference!
ReplyDeleteAnyone remember the days of 'skeleton' bus services on Boxing/New Year's Day operated by Plymouth City Transport in the 70s/80s? I remember a bus about every 90 mins on the old 47 (Western Kings to Estover via Efford Lane).
