Plymouth Citybus are going green. Well at least this bus in. Today sees the public launch of the new MacMillan bus:
Plymouth Citybus 511 WF63LYV. Photos from Milehouse pre launch.
There are plenty of ways to donate detailed on the bus, with a Just Giving page with an initial aim of £20,000 and also the text number 70070 which can be used. Perhaps the most useful though is the collection box by the driver. The money goes straight into a locked collection box which MacMillan will empty themselves.
So if you see this bus coming, and lets face it, you cant miss it, please give generously, or at the vey least, the small change left from your bus fare. It will all add up.
The bus has been publically launched this morning from 10:00 and is currently outside The Guildhall in Plymouth City Centre, so do pop along and see it for yourself where I am sure there will be opportunities to donate!

whilst a good idea and a good cause, I can't help thinking it should be a more local good cause, such as St Lukes Hospice
ReplyDeletePersonally I would have preferred this colour green on the green flash buses, however, if it had been this bus would have been easily mistaken if it was the same colour as others, as it is it should stand out and hopefully make a big impact all round
ReplyDeleteThink that a brighter green would have looked better on the Green Flash buses. The current green is rather dull on a bus.
ReplyDeleteHas the rear number display been covered up? This would make the bus non-DDA compliant.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, and for a great cause!
ReplyDeleteOne question though, the 'one' on the rear window, covering the number display box. Has this been removed/deactivated? Or will an orange service number be seen behind the lettering?
Rear blinds do not feature in dda laws only fron and side ones
ReplyDeletei do like this livery and is a great idea but the back ad has been removed, maybe due to the dda with the back blind but there is no fleet number at the back of the bus now and a clear window with the dest showing again (50A)

ReplyDeleteSorry, not true. See "SCHEDULE 2 GENERAL ACCESSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR SINGLE-DECK AND DOUBLE-DECK BUSES" of which clause (2) states "A regulated public service vehicle shall be fitted with a route number display on the rear of the vehicle." Bradley Darlington's post would seem to confirm that PCB have realised the error.
Except that it is not a requirement that a bus service shall have a number - and I am not thinking of Stagecoach Gold. I think there must still be a few coach operators who run registered market-day bus services which they have not numbered - and not all County Councils impose numbers.
DeleteI expect the fleet number 511 was printed on the vinyl sign that was removed from the rear window section.
ReplyDeleteI guess it now reads "Plymouth should face cancer alone". That's going to start the complaints rolling in!
ReplyDeletebut it doesnt say that!
Deleteto anonymous 28th oct at 08:21 its just clear glass now with no logos there, just clear
DeleteThe rear number is just one of the stupid laws .Who reads the rear number .
ReplyDeleteerr, just about everybody who approaches the bus from behind. Its incredibly useful to know the bus in front is or isnt the one you want.
