The Next Two Weeks

Previously announced changes due in the next two weeks. The main event is the reworking of Stagecoach 2 to take in more of Plymstock and Saltash.

• No details yet from Stagecoach but…Route is split with different sections of Saltash served and also 2A now goes to Elburton whilst 2 goes through to Mount Batten.
• Service 2 buses will continue onto Mount Batten every 20 minutes using the current route.The 2A will now serve Elburton every 20 minutes via a new loop along Springfield Road and Stanborough Road.In Saltash, and in response to customer feedback, the 2 will serve Frobisher Drive instead of Beatrice Avenue (Evening Herald)

• Again, no details from Citybus yet but if there are any changes they are minor ones. Its not helped by the different timing points being used on the Traveline timetables but all looks pretty much the same to me!

It didnt seem that long ago that we had both Plymouth Citybus and First both publishing full details of their service changes well in advance and easy to find on their web sites. You pretty much had at least 4 weeks notice, sometimes more from both companies. Sadly things have changed. Plymouth Citybus are a lot later than they used to be, but at least once they do publish its easy to find on their web site. I really do despair with the Stagecoach site which even after its refresh is still far too complicated to clumsy to use. You have to give it a location to find any updates, so you select Plymouth. It then tells you it cant find Plymouth and then lists 5 examples of Plymouth, so you select one of them and it gives you an update for Plymouth - which todays tells me service 584/585 has a new operator. Not anywhere near Plymouth!

In The News

MORE than 1,000 signatures have been collected in a bid to save the 60/61 bus service between Torquay and Paignton which is set to be axed in May. Large numbers of people concerned by the decision are expected to attend a meeting at Occombe Farm on Wednesday, April 20, at 2.30pm Operator Local Link is reluctantly withdrawing the service, which is used by around 100,000 people a year, due to cuts to its concessionary fund.

TORBAY Council's executive lead for transport is asking council members to spend £100,000 to keep the 60/61 bus service between Torquay and Paignton going for 12 months while it looks for a permanent solution.
As the Herald Express has reported, the Local Link service is set to be axed in May for commercial reasons, to the horror of hundreds of local residents who have signed a petition to save it.
But the proposal to spend £100,000 on the loss-making bus service has not been well received by all – and a fellow councillor has accused the move of being simply an attempt to win a by-election in that ward, with the money being needed elsewhere.
