Disappointed
STAGECOACH has said it is "extremely disappointed" with one of its drivers after a disabled woman was prevented from travelling on a bus because her pass was not valid for another few minutes.Betty Willis attempted to catch Stagecoach South West's 155 service from Newport Road into the centre of Barnstaple on Thursday, November 26.
However, after the bus, which was due to arrive at 9.33am, reached the bus stop early, Mrs Willis was told her concession pass was not valid.

Still no news on pcb website on the changes for january? normally they're on there months in advance!
ReplyDeleteThey have if you bother to check properly!
DeleteIts up now! See my greenflash comment below
Deletethey hadn't when this comment was left.
DeleteOn the question of the pensioner not being allowed to board the Stagecoach bus, the driver should not have been operating early.
ReplyDeleteAs I understand, in line with an agreement with the traffic commissioners, buses cannot operate more than one minute early. Furthermore, if the bus was due at 9.33am as stated, the bus should have waited at the stop because the likelihood was that the ticket machine was not programmed to accept passes before 9.30am.
I can remember where I live, some years ago there was a restriction on pensioners' concessionary passes between 4pm and 6pm. However, if a bus was due for example at 3.58pm and turned up at 4.10pm, the card holder was allowed to board as the bus was late and the passenger couldn't be held responsible for a late running service. This was of course, before the days of computerised ticket machines and the introduction of the ENCT scheme, which removed the afternoon/early evening restriction.
I notice that there are two inaccurate and spiteful comments below the newspaper aricle, but clearly they are wrong because Stagecoach themselves did not choose to defend the driver's actions. The lady in question was perfectly entitled to board the bus and use her concessionary travel pass on this occasion.
Looks like 5/5A is being green flash - pics of the buses in the new timetables look great.
ReplyDeleteWell as for the pensioner why didn't she just buy a ticket for down the road, and then use her bus pass, that's what Western Greyhound did on there 0925 journey from Exeter. People had to a buy a ticket down to St Davids then scan their card, made perfect sense instead of making the bus late.
ReplyDeleteBecause that misses the point. The bus was running early. Had it been running to time, it would have been after 09:30 and her pass would have been valid. Your WG situation is different as passes wouldn't have been valid until the bus got to St David's. Stagecoach's comments in the North Devon newspaper report could have bene much clearer but, for whatever reason, it would seem that they're trying to avoid attention being drawn to the early running and I'm not going to speculate as to why that might be.
DeleteShe didn't have any money on her as she was expecting to use the pass, but that aside ....
DeleteIf the bus was due at 09.33 and it had arrived before 09.30, it is not actually a compliant journey (as per the post above). The Traffic Commissioners allow one minute early, no more.
One minute early, like that ever happened on Hop12 until the new bypass was built sometimes a bus was 10 minutes early, other times it was 5 minutes late! Its very difficult for a bus to be just one minute early, as if stops are scheduled but nobody is there that's going to make the bus even earlier!
Delete5/5A Confirmed as GREEN FLASH! New PCB Timetables show this!
ReplyDeleteIt's going to make St Budeaux a rather colourful place!
Delete5/5a Plymstock - City Centre - St Budeaux gets GREENFLASH from January, with new double deckers according to the timeable.http://assets.goaheadbus.com/media/cms_page_media/2456/5%20GREENFLASH%20AW%20041215%20MT%20PCITYBUS-15-168%20TIMETABLE%20UPDATES%20JAN.pdf
ReplyDeleteThis probably means 532-538 will come in green. Is 7 buses enough? Will a few of the new Enviros come green too? (151-154 for example).
There are a few other things I have noticed with the new timetables.
ReplyDeleteThe combined frequency of the 10/11/12 between Plymouth and Saltash comes in for a trim, being reduced to a basic ten-minute headway. Also there are changes to the routes in the Saltash estates, with the 10a withdrawn, the 11 having a small reroute and quite a number of roads left uncovered, presumably these are being left to Stagecoach.
The 11a is shown as a Plymouth-Padstow through route and is effectively an hourly extension of the existing Plymouth-Liskeard route 11, seems a bit surprising that it is given a separate suffix when the route 12 journeys extended to Launceston and Bude do not have one.
As predicted, the 32 continues to operate between Royal Parade and Torpoint Ferry, but is now routed via North Road and Pennycomequick to serve Plymouth Station. The routes crossing the Ferry now become the 70 (with 70a and 70b variants) and 71, the latter to Liskeard - both routes operate via Union Street instead of Stoke. At Royal Parade, most 32s become 70/71 and vice versa, giving Torpoint through services to Plymouth Station (albeit with a wait at Royal Parade).
Route 34 also has some timing adjustments to give better connections for Torpoint residents travelling to and from Derriford Hospital.
"surprising that it is given a separate suffix when the route 12 journeys extended to Launceston and Bude do not have one." Yes, and presumably the 11 will still change to a 73 to Looe, so what's the difference?
DeleteThe service can't of been early as there is no timing point at the stop. The previous timing point is 0925. So service can't be classed as early
ReplyDeleteIf that service habitually arrives at that stop at 09.33 and that day it arrived before 09.30, it was early. For it to be four minutes or more early makes me wonder what time it actually did leave the previous timing point.
ReplyDeleteThe B7TLs will more widely start to be withdrawn in the coming weeks, this Change will mainly effect the route 32 and 70 from January 2016 with the introduction of brand new Double Decker buses, The ex Brighton ones are the only ones which are to remain, I'm guessing the replacements will be E400s but with only 7 on order it remains a mystery if it's actually true.
ReplyDeleteMark
the new 70/71 will be a mix of the 7 new E400s and a few b7tls which are being kept back, you are right in saying that most will be withdrawn though, I would guess the the ones minus the swoop livery will be gone
DeleteThe new E40D's for PCB will be Green Flash
ReplyDeleteGreenflash is getting enviro 200s/e20ds not e40ds. Ive been told by someone high up
DeleteAnon 19th December 2015 21:01 is correct The new E400s are for for the route 70,There will be 7 In total plus 3 B7TLs mainly working the 71 services. The E200s are indeed for Green Flash.
