Fleet News

First Kernow

It does indeed seem that the “new livery” for Cornwall is the standard Olympia livery with Kernow fleet names rather than anything nice and fancy like Somerset.

Latest buses joining the fleet include

 60379 and 62214 Volvo B10BLE from Manchester in Olympia livery.

61594 SA02BZL Volvo B7L from Glasgow (Olympia)

ex Park & Ride 65762 is now in Olympia livery along with 65759

A2B Newquay Travel

A2B have taken on a few ex Western Greyhound buses for their mixed fleet: K90WGH Volvo B7TL in WG green, P936MKL Olympian in pink, Dennis Darts SHZ2046 T311SMV and S7BVT in pink. It appears that the new bus livery is to be blue and white with Dart W671TNV looking quite smart

  1. Interested to see a double-decker (419) on the 12 the other day - unfortunately with only one passenger on it. This was soon after three in the afternoon. While driving into Plymouth, I met both a First 76 and a Citybus 12 heading towards Callington - with less than five passengers on each. There really is not enough business between Callington and Plymouth for three buses an hour.

    1. The double deckers run to Launceston in between school runs, hence the double decks on them, utilising the vehicles during the day.

  2. Whilst it is true 60379 etc. are in 'Olympia' livery they have neither First or Kernow names. Also other recent acquisitions do not have Kernow names and 53505 has lost its Kernow name. Or am I reading too mush into this?

    1. probably! There is at least one bus which has recently received full large KERNOW fleet names on the sides and also the front of the bus and it looked very smart. I couldn't find the picture again so I couldn't confirm which bus it was though.

    2. I did see a first kernow poster pz at the weekend in an Olympia style if that helps?

    3. 60379 was in Plymouth yesterday on the number 3 route seen just before lunchtime

  3. A few more unhelpful destination displays from Citybus, I am afraid:
    - '12 Bude via Stratton' again going through St. Budeaux;
    - '79 Tavistock via Calstock' heading north through St. Mellion (or is this intentional on through-running buses?);
    - some sort of electronic code in green along the top of the display and a paper '12' in the windscreen; still, I think, unhelpful in the city where people would still expect a number as low as 12 to be a city service, not a longer-distance one. The lack of destination, which the Traffic Commisioners would not like, prevents people from knowing whether it is going to Callington, Launceston or Bude (or Tavistock) without stopping the bus and asking the driver;
    - another Solo (the same one?) in Callington with '78' on a paper label but no destination; the trouble with the New Road stop is that buses use the same stand for both directions on the 12, 76 and 78.

    On the brighter side, Citybus have done well on roadside timetables with displays on all stops that I have seen on the 12, 74 and 79. They have, actually, overdone it a bit by putting displays in a couple of places where there is no bus service - Liskeard Road, Callington, and Longacre, Harrowbarrow. Their design of bus stop 'flag' is neat, simple and eye-catching, too - and where they have not put up a new 'flag', they have put a red 'GoCornwall - Citybus' stripe on the existing one.

    @ keith, drivers have had a notice telling them not to show bude from plymouth as it goes against how the route is registered. will mention it in a meeting i am at on friday 26 june.
    at the moment there are 3 long solos which have non functioning controllers, hence why there is paper in the window. the new ones are on order, and have to come from germany, although not an ideal solution, and one i am not that happy about, for the moment paper has to be used. once again, i will bring up at the meeting. the electronic code u saw was a test code.
    hope that clears up your concerns.

  5. A real missed opportunity if First Kernow is not going to get a smart new livery, With all the new routes it would have been a golden opportunity to have a modern look on the Company vehicles. Sticking a large Kernow on the Olympia livery does not really achieve much. The Go Cornwall vehicles look very smart in comparison.

  6. Reliable information that they have been experimenting with adaptations to Olympia for Kernow. Last week they were adding black and white to a Scania in plymouth but they sent a photo to their boss who said it wasn't right so it got taken off. Told that the B7L was finished in full Jernow livery today in Camborne garage and that this is the single deck version that all dda singles will get if / when they are in Olympia.
