    1. I believe that is correct, they were removed from the fleetlist on B&H's website (which had shown them as being away on loan) and placed under 2015 disposals, a few weeks ago.

as always, our engineering department does a fantastic job of getting buses which look battered and worn, and turn them into immaculate buses. I would imagine that 53 & 54 would go into GCB livery, once the tridents have been finished. probably get done at same time as london darts. we will have to wait and see.

    1. I would be deeply concerned if PCBs engineering department didn't do what you're saying, given that it's something that would fall squarely in their job description.

I think it is a testament to the inherited skills within the business - even in municipal days the fleet was properly presented, which perhaps hints at why they have refurbished older SLFs to DDA specification when others would bin these vehicles and scrap them.

  4. It's oil on the back so maybe a burst oil pipe perhaps?

  5. The engineering department aren't as good good as Mr Hudson implies(but thats only a PCB view, he has to say that otherwise he'd lose his job), the engineering is poor at best & even the enviro 400's are suffering from rather dodgy ratles & squeaks

    1. The whole Enviro range has these rattles as a built in design feature of the bus itself.
Mr Hudson is part of the 'Destination Blinds Team' and this must be an industry first - a whole team devoted to the updating of destination screens whereas it's a half thought out highly exclusive prized preserve of some *happy* person sitting in a Commercial Office dipping in and out of it with other highly exciting tasks. Well it has been anywhere I've worked. :)

    2. Getting the fleet out in a well presented livery - Getting there but ok ish. Having over 130 vehicles serviced overnight ready for the next day - yes, normally very good. Minimising disruption to passengers - Yes, considering that this is machinery which can go wrong(anyone in engineering knows this best) So Overall PCB actually do a good job, its not in there place to fix problems with hand rail rattles, that comes down to the manufacturer i.e. Alexander Dennis.

    3. Anonymous27 May 2015 at 09:26 are you serious? Not the engineers job to tighten a few rivets? If they aren't capable of that they don't deserve to be calling themselves an engineer.

    4. anon 19:36 - you don't tighten a rivet!!! If someone attempts that (or even suggests it), they don't deserve to be calling themselves an engineer...

    5. At Anon 27: 19:36 you don't tighten rivets, you tighten, screws, nuts & bolts. Rivets are forced in using a riveting gun and a bucking bar. I've done several rivets in the past few months, the only place you will get them on the bus is the outer lower panels etc. The hand rails inside the bus will be bolted on, with head protectors so people can't unscrew them etc. The only way to stop the rattles would be to fix them to the roof and the floor, which is stupid when seats are concerned. 6. Firstly let me say that I am not an engineer, but very firmly "traffic" (schedules, actually), but on this Trident I see signs of a lack of real care and attention. Have a look at the windows. Have you spotted them? Yes, the "No Smoking" signs. Just a few stragglers left over. Either remove them or make up a full set.

PCB certainly aren't alone in this, so perhaps it is unfair to single them out, but how often have we seen a bus fresh from the paint shop with worn seats, chipped handrails etc? I know it all costs, and no doubt comes from different budgets, but why spoil the ship?

Not PCB, but another big group subsidiary, (and my old depot) release buses back into traffic from repaint with years out of date and faded branding on the windows; the same depot which used to take pride in repainting the cabs and platforms of our open-toppers at least once a year as that was the company's "shop window" to the tourist paying premium fares. Its the detail that counts.

  7. I love that most of the stickers are lighter than the bus itself

  8. Anonymous27 May 2015 at 22:40 & Anonymous28 May 2015 at 11:16, it would appear you have had your nuts tightened a little too much. Lighten up, I was purely making a point to the poster who said it was not an engineers job to sort out small issues with buses.

    1. I think it is you that needs to "Lighten up". They were purely making the point that you were wrong in what you said about "tightening rivets" and you obviously didn't like that.
Why not just thank them for the correction they provided.

    2. OK, this thread has been riveting to follow - but I think its come to an end now!

    3. 'Riveting' - obvious. But 'follow the thread'...l can see what you did there! Superb!

  9. Generally the PCB fleet is well-presented. However, yesterday as I was waiting at traffic lights I saw a very tatty Dart on the 13 and my first thought was 'Jacketts''. However, as the bus crossed in front of me, I realised that it was in Brighton and Hove livery with the 'Brighton and Hove' transfers only partially removed. I didm't see the front, but there was nothing on the side to indicate it was Citybus.

I am now waiting for someone to ask me if I would rather have a tatty bus or nothing at all!

    1. You were right with Jacketts, this is one of theirs. The Citybus ones at least have large Citybus names on the front and sides. https://flic.kr/p/k7XEEv
