Only got time for a very quick post, but its an important one!

The first batch of Dennis Tridents from Brighton & Hove for Plymouth Citybus have arrived at Milehouse.

PK02RFL Arthur Wagner

PK02RFF Edward Lowther

PK02RDV Syd Dean

PK02RDU Arthur Cox

are here so far.

As they are already basically red I would expect them to be pressed into service pretty quickly in Brighton livery but I am sure it wont be long before they start getting swooped. The Solos have almost been completed with one in the workshop (222) leaving just 223 in green.

These Tridents look quite tidy inside and being longer length and single door buses I am sure their capacity will come in very handy indeed.

  1. Ancient, run down, second hand, cast offs. Oh dear what will the blinkered "CityBus is best" crowd say now? Will they get a reality check, or will they remain in their own little biased world?

Personally these are probably reasonable aquisitions, ready to do the work lined up for them, but what do I know, I can see beyond Milehouse.

    1. What's wrong with these?? there only 13+ years old, Brighton & Hove vehicles are normally in good condition, and if it keeps the fares slightly lower by averaging out the fleet age, then where's the problems. I would imagine these will either replace some of the other double deckers(to go to Chambers etc.) or help to build on busy services.

So what do you want? Complain if new buses because it means higher fares, or complain that they are getting older buses which could bring down fares?

    3. These vehicles are in very good condition, well maintained by B&H and most have recently been given new MOTs. They are only just 13 years old, being new in April 2002, and have at least a couple of years service left in them - B&H has a progressive fleet replacement policy which sees vehicles moved on well before the end of their life.

  2. 'Ancient, run down, second hand, cast offs' Haven't I heard this many times before about First?

  3. It's often been said about First. There is a big wide world beyond Milehouse too.

  4. Why does the Plymouth to Tavistock service have a different route number on Sundays? Is it 42 or 46? Strange

  5. Graham, any plans to change the name of the blog, to "we hate Citybus"?? Nearly 100% of the comments are negative towards Citybus.
They are a successful company investing in vehicles and staff, whilst first have cutback to only profitable routes and yet Citybus are the bad guys???

    1. There does seem to be an increase in anti Citybus comments recently but its not all one-way. Not all comments are getting through as I am holding back a lot which either dont make any sense (quite a few) or are just downright rude / personal (not too many). I have generally allowed all comments apart from these exceptions but I am beginning to think I may need to review this policy.

    2. Perhaps there is a reason for the anti citybus comment s that the company could look at rather Tha ignore comment which is so often the case. For years First have been bad mouthed but that was ok wasn't it?

  6. I think that is a little unfair 14/04/15 10:09. For years we have had to put up with First is rubbish...blah blah, now suddenly the boot is on the other foot, the GA are great brigade don't like it, Fairs fair. Have lost many hours of my life waiting for non existent Citybus services I can well understand the anti Citybus comments to be fair. All I see is a company hell bent on expansion at Milehouse trying to push their rivals out of town, luckily with no success, it is a bit much when I see aren't we wonderful we now go all over Cornwall as well when their services don't turn up at Whitleigh or Southway on a regular basis. I have swapped to First now (cos I am lucky to be served by both operators, and yes their buses are a tad old but at least they turn up on a regular basis. They are by no means perfect but from my unbiased opinion I find travelling with First to be a whole lot less stressful than Citybus, not to mention I have quite a bit more money in my pocket after using First as well.

    1. I am not convinced they are trying to force First out, they are just trying to grow their business and expand into areas they never used to serve. I doubt if there is much difference between the two companies when it comes to buses not turning up. I know of several people who complain that their First bus does not turn up - just as many who complain about Citybus. (Because I run a bus blog people tell me when their bus fails to turn up!)
