Alternates with Cornwall Transit every Tuesday. It may not be quite the same scale as Cornwall, but its not far off it this week. As with the last Cornwall Transit post, this has had to be split across two posts as I have simply run out of time putting it all together! Part 2 will be in the next day or two. We concentrate here on the Plymouth Citybus changes (the Cornish services having already been covered). You may notice the maps are looking different this week. Hopefully its an improvement over the old ones.

Timetables
The 12th April sees one of the biggest set of timetable changes for a while with several routes being renumbered.
4 Royal Parade > Mount Batten
The below service 4/4A and 5/5A all both operate between Royal Parade and Plymstock Broadway providing an up to every 7 minute frequency.
Services 4 & 4A (NEW SERVICE). City Centre – Plymstock – Hooe – Mount Batten
Service 4 operates up to every 30 mins via Billacombe, serving the entrance to the development at Saltram Meadow,
Plymstock School, Plymstock Broadway, Goosewell and Hooe.
Service 4A operates up to every 30 mins via Oreston, and serves Plymstock Broadway, Goosewell and Hooe
5: Royal Parade > Elburton
Plymstock – City Centre: Frequency to Elburton and Staddiscombe now up to every 30 mins each. The afternoon diversion to Plymstock School is removed. Services 10 & 10A replace the current 5/5A City Centre to Saltash section.All journeys follow current 5 route outbound to Oaklands Green, and current 5A route inbound up to every 15 mins. 10 operates clockwise on Yellowtor loop, and 10A anticlockwise. Callington Road is now served by services 11/12 below.
10 Royal Parade > Saltash
This replaces the current 5/5A City Centre to Saltash section.
All journeys follow current 5 route outbound to Oaklands Green, and current 5A route inbound up to every 15 mins. 10 operates clockwise on Yellowtor loop, and 10A anticlockwise. Callington Road is now served by services 11/12 below.
11 Plymouth > Tavistock > Okehampton

16: Plymouth Royal Parade > Kings Tamerton
Departs from Royal Parade A1. Outbound serves Western Approach and inbound serves Cobourg Street and Viaduct. Monday to Saturday now up to every 20 minutes, Sunday up to every 30 minutes.
21 Barne Barton > City Centre > Chaddlewood
Services 21 & 21A Monday to Saturday early morning and early evening revisions to improve pacing.
29 Royal Parade > Derriford

33 Royal Parade Keyham
Service 33 Departs from Royal Parade A1 . Outbound serves Western Approach and inbound serves Cobourg Street and Viaduct. Monday to Saturday now up to every 20 minutes, Sunday up to every 30 minutes.

Increased frequency to Royal William Yard
Additional journeys 7 days a week between Royal William Yard and Royal Parade. Additional journeys between Royal William Yard and Derriford via Milehouse on Sundays only. Partly funded by Urban Splash and Plymouth City Council

Replaced by the new 50

Service 46 Current service 11 Revised running times between Peter Tavy & Okehampton.
50 Ernesettle > City Centre > Derriford
New cross city route, current 43 and 50 combined Revised running times. Current 43 / 50 route to be run by new double deck buses, currently on order
51 City Centre > St Budeaux > Derriford
Current service 29/29A: Revised running times between Holly Park and West Park. Services in Victoria Road will now be either 50 or 51/51A.

I did have quite a few new service start this week at least according to some recent VOSA registrations but it looks like the dates have changed for a few of them with routes 366, 979, M and U all now starting from 25th May. That still leaves a couple of services staring this week:

That's a big change for PCB. I must say that I am from the industry and I am just getting my head around the changes. How are the public going to get on. I suspect there will be some lost pensioners next week.
ReplyDeleteAll this coming hot on the heels of the last September 2014 changes and then the November 2014 changes to correct the cock ups of the September 2014 changes. I do hope these new changes are properly planned as if not we will see the June 2015 changes to correct the unforeseen consequences.
DeletePCB isn't that 'big' an operation - to have this level of change in a business hints at something going badly wrong high up in the decision making processes.
How must the drivers feel having their rota's changed for the 4th, 5th time in 12 months? Might this be why there are vacancies for driving staff?

Totally agree. I have never known a company change so much as pcb.. They are only small really so clearly are terrible at planning.

ReplyDeleteI'd go for big rather than huge. These were only half of the changes as the Cornish network changes quite a bit but has already been covered here. The big thing is that there are a lot of passengers who will be faced with route number changes and that will confuse a lot of people. Some of these routes have been around for years, like the 43 has always gone to Ernesettle - catching a 50 will take some getting used to!

ReplyDeleteIt's not that people moan at changes...but why do Citybus need to change things so much?? No other bus company changes things every few months, including changing changes. Do other companies test things first and Citybus don't ?? I for one am just wandering that is all. What is so wrong at Citybus that this needs to happen..yet First and Stagecoach can only change every 18 months or so ?
ReplyDeleteWhile I can see that it relieves congestion on the 'shops' side of Royal Parade, re-routing services to go anticlockwise round the city centre is less convenient for shoppers - in particular crossing Charles Street to get to the Drake Circus centre and also preventing access to Mayflower Street.
ReplyDeleteThe service to Ernesettle was 43 (with 44 going the opposite way round the Ernesettle loop) from March 1958. Both went into the City Centre, then out to Whitleigh via Crownhill. Was 1958 when the Ernesettle estate was built?
Sorry - I meant clockwise. Anticlockwise (ideally including Mayflower St.) good; clockwise not so good.
