In The News
Devon County Council has made every effort to minimise disruption to services previously provided by Torridge Community Transport Association, following its closure at the end of January.Alternative services were rearranged in the area by the County Council, with less than a week’s notice, to ensure that replacements were in place for the local community with no breaks in service.
Beacon Buses took over the Bideford Pannier Hopper at the end of last month and the Torridge Ring & Ride service is temporarily being supplied by the Ilfracombe Community Transport Association.
People trying to access medical appointments can contact the Go North Devon SPOC on 01271 314332. The staff there will give advice on what transport options are available to help people to get to medical appointments. Some people on low incomes may be able to get help with their travel costs. The refund, if granted, will be for the costs of the cheapest form of transport available.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: “We had very little notice when the Torridge Community Transport Association went into administration and then ceased days later, but we have ensured that alternative transport services have been provided with no breaks in service. We have tried to make it as seamless as possible. Although community car services are not the responsibility of the County Council, we are also offering support to those endeavouring to re-establish community car schemes to cover the northern area of Torridge and parts of North Devon.”
For those with internet access, more information on transport options can be found at www.journeydevon.info
Anyone wanting to book a journey on the Torridge Ring & Ride bus should call 01271 866762.

Holsworthy Ltd (BeaconBus) - VOSA has another string of cancellations from them today 10th March effective 2 May. It looks like all their remaining routes are all cancelled and thus they are leaving the bus business in a controlled manner. I can't say I am surprised. Last time I was in Tiverton the crew bus was being used as the 398 service bus.
ReplyDeleteBig price cuts from First in Kernow from Sunday...looks like they are turning the screw on the new WG down there!
ReplyDeleteInterestingly the fare reductions quoted are across their West Cornwall network. They must be trying out First Bristol's and Stagecoach Southwest's experience that currently fare reductions bring enough increased ridership to pay for the reduction and more. More people on buses!
DeleteThe competitive fares against WG are transfer tickets. Fares allowing change between the 21, 24 and 27 in St Austell and also from the U1 in Truro to Newquay routes. Creates a network effect.
They're not trying out anyone else's experience, they're reducing all the fares where WG are cheaper than them!
DeleteVery reliable information that WG have cut their commitments with registrations submitted to the Traffic Commissioner, including Fowey Par and Liskeard. Also news from Leeds that they have requested short notice cancellations from the Traffic Commissioner, trying to drop a load of the registrations that were submitted only a couple of weeks ago, because they can't operate them! Also that their Public Inquiry is currently scheduled for the last week of March and is a joint one relating to both Velvet and WG. Oh dear...
DeleteAnd today's news: Western Greyhound has ceased trading this morning.
