When the Government introduced free fares for pensioners it did its usual trick with funding public services and has left a real mess for local authorities to deal with. With most of Devon and Cornwall getting county wide free travel, Plymouth pensioners seemed to be loosing out big time. Well it now seems like Plymouth pensioners wont be alone. Torbay have announced that they too are going to restrict the scheme to their own area, and withdraw from the county scheme. East Devon, like Plymouth were never part of the county wide scheme and Mid Devon has admitted it too is considering pulling out.
"The government tells us they have funded this fully, but they have not. Every council, certainly in Devon, has had this problem."
